"60/40 Skateboards was started by Mark Gonzales after parting ways with his newly formed ATM Click. Mark built up 60/40 with help from Ron Chatman who continued to guide the brand after Mark's departure in 1996. Other 60/40 riders included Joey Suriel, Fabian Alomar, Jay Stephens, Gino Perez, George Morales, Steven Cales, Florentin Marfaing, John Deago, Doug Diaz, Lee Smith, and others." -Anthony Pappalardo [The Writer]
"60/40 was founded by Ron Chatman with Mark Gonzales in early 1994 after Gonz left ATM Click. Sixty Forty lasted couple of years until disbanding early 1997. (Gonz left for Real and his Real ad appeared in Oct 96 issue of Thrasher, so the company had few months of business after he left). Other riders included Jay Stephens aka. SAD, Gino Perez, John Deago, Steven Cales, George Morales, Rodney Cooper and more. They also released the great “Glasses for your Feet” video in 1995 and a classic 411VM ad etc. The 60/40 logo is awesome too." -Skate Outlaw, Medium
Ron Chatman explains the name of the company in 'chrome ball interview #41: ron chatman' (2012, see link on this page):
"Mark [Gonzales] and I were basically assassins for hire. We didn’t have the funding but if you let us fly our flag, we’d fight for you. You can even have the lion’s share. That’s what 60/40 was about. With any true art, the artist gets the smaller piece."
