Otherness is a skateboard company founded by Thom Hornung and Mat O'Brien, with Marc Johnson joining the team after his release from Chocolate Skateboards. The company emerged in 2017 from a mix of creative energy and a dream Marc Johnson had, which inspired the name "Otherness." The company started as a mysterious Instagram page, showcasing pixelated images, hand-drawn illustrations, and cryptic posts that piqued the curiosity of skateboarding fans. This ambiguous launch left many wondering about its direction, but it eventually grew into a unique board brand. Marc Johnson, known for his relentless creative flow, brought his vision to the brand, crafting one-of-a-kind artwork and collaborating with other figures in skate culture. The first board series was designed by Derrick Snodgrass. Otherness quickly made waves with their collaboration with Black Sheep Skateboard Shop, which featured a deck paying homage to classic Real Skateboards and Blind graphics. In addition to Thom, Mat, and Marc, other original members like Barker Barrett, Shannon May, and Tony Cox contributed to the company's culture. While Marc, Thom, and Mat are the primary forces behind the brand's creative output, Otherness continues to evolve, attracting attention for its artistic approach and unconventional vibe. Whether as a board brand or an art project, Otherness represents a space for like-minded individuals to express their passion for skateboarding in a fresh and innovative way.
