In February 2024, Scumco & Sons informed the public that they were going out of business.
Scumco & Sons, a unique skateboarding brand from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, ran for 14 years, embodying the DIY spirit and underground skate culture. Founded by Nick Teodori and Ben Smith, the brand started out of frustration with uninspired design work. Their focus was on creativity and innovation, producing distinctive skate decks and quirky accessories—everything from skate wax to whoopie cushions. Scumco’s boards, known as “Shred Weapons,” were made with US 7-ply maple and often featured intricate, multi-color graphics. Despite success during the COVID boom, including selling out large batches of boards, the brand struggled with mounting debt and the changing skate industry. Teodori, tired of the business grind, ultimately decided to close shop in 2024. Throughout its run, Scumco’s charm lay in its dedication to making cool, personal products, though the grind of constant content creation and financial pressures proved too much. The brand’s legacy remains as a beloved symbol of indie skateboarding.
