Skatepark of Tampa (SPoT) was founded in 1993 by Brian Schaefer, with early help from Paul Zitzer and Bill Weiss. What started as a DIY vert ramp in a Tampa warehouse grew into one of skateboarding’s most iconic institutions. Despite early struggles, SPoT became world-famous for hosting the Tampa Am and Tampa Pro contests, starting in 1994. These events have launched the careers of many top pros and continue to draw talent from around the globe. Known for its raw, authentic atmosphere, SPoT remains a core part of skateboarding culture—built by skaters, for skaters.
