Colin Read is a skateboarder and filmmaker. His work has reshaped how street skating is documented on film. Born in the Philippines, raised in Florida, and based in New York City since 2010, Read came to filmmaking through skating itself. After breaking his pelvis at 19, filming became a way to stay involved with friends and sessions, ultimately defining his role behind the camera. Throughout the 2010s, he released a series of independent full-length videos: including Mandible Claw (2010), Tengu: God of Mischief (2013), and the cult classic Spirit Quest (2016), each marked by experimental camerawork, unconventional editing, and a refusal to follow standard skate video formulas. His films often blend street skating with animation, archival material, and multi-camera techniques, emphasizing feeling and structure as much as tricks.
