Patrick O’Dell is a filmmaker, photographer, and documentarian best known for creating "Epicly Later’d", a documentary series that transformed the way skateboarding stories are told. Originally a photo blog launched in 2004, Epicly Later’d evolved into a long-running video series on Vice, profiling professional skateboarders like Ali Boulala, Elissa Steamer, and Heath Kirchart. The series is recognized for its emotional honesty, blending interviews and archival footage to reveal the personal lives behind the skaters’ public personas.
O’Dell began his career contributing photography to Thrasher magazine and documenting skate tours. He also served as photo editor at Vice, where his access to New York’s creative scene helped shape his storytelling style. Beyond Epicly Later’d, O’Dell directed "Dumb: The Story of Big Brother Magazine" for Hulu, chronicling the infamous skate magazine that led to the creation of "Jackass".
Known for his reflective and empathetic approach, O’Dell has also worked on music videos, freelance film projects, and photo books. He encourages financial literacy within skateboarding, urging pros to invest for the future. Now based in Los Angeles with his family, O’Dell continues to document how skateboarding is seen, remembered, and understood.
