Hometown: Winston Salem, North Carolina Stance: Regular Also Known As: MJ, Chauncy Peppertooth Growing up in North Carolina, Marc’s early skateboarding years were filled with carefree sessions alongside a close-knit group of friends. His passion for pushing the limits of skateboarding and his influences from skaters like Gino Iannucci and Daewon Song helped shape his unique approach to the sport. Marc’s youth was defined by a blend of local skating, watching videos, and developing his own identity on the board, while staying connected to his crew. In his middle years, Marc's career soared, earning him the prestigious title of Skater of the Year in 2007. However, the pressure to perform, coupled with personal struggles, led to challenges in his professional and personal life. Marc's battle with alcohol took a toll on him, particularly during the stressful filming of "Fully Flared", where he faced intense pressure to outdo previous performances. His alcohol abuse strained relationships, especially with filmmaker Ty Evans, but he later reconciled and found peace. Marc’s journey to self-improvement began in 2009 when he quit drinking, sought therapy, and began focusing on spiritual growth, including reading and reflection. This personal transformation, combined with his creative spirit, led Marc to start his own skateboard brand, where he prioritized authenticity and innovation over traditional business metrics. Marc’s career has been marked by several transitions between skate brands, including his move from Maple to A-Team, and later to Chocolate. His time with A-Team was marked by disillusionment with the lack of direction within the brand, though he appreciated the chance to work with Rodney Mullen, a huge influence on his skateboarding. His time with enjoi, however, was more fulfilling, providing opportunities for growth and personal connections. Eventually, Marc left enjoi to pursue new opportunities, which led him to Chocolate and Lakai, where he hoped to push boundaries and find creative fulfillment. In his later years, Marc shifted his focus to personal growth and creativity, exploring art, woodworking, and self-reflection. Despite facing frustrations, like an unreleased video part and challenges with his brand’s growth, Marc’s love for skateboarding remains. He now uses his experiences to mentor younger skaters like Dashawn Jordan, encouraging them to focus on overcoming challenges and living authentic lives. Through his journey, Marc Johnson has become a symbol of resilience, creativity, and personal growth, continuing to inspire both on and off the board.
